The English Patient is set at the end of World War II, where a young nurse takes care of a badly-burned plane crash victim. During a series of flashbacks, the victim’s past is shown, telling the story of his love affair and the choices he made during the war.

Based on the novel by Helen Fielding this 2001 movie was a huge hit with audiences and has become a classic in the romantic comedy genre. The movie and the novel drew inspiration from Jane Austen’s classic, Pride and Prejudice.

The production featured an all-star cast and won the Empire Award for Best British Film. It was nominated for the British Comedy Award and for a BAFTA.
